CLA Recognized By Channel 3 as First Expeditionary School in Cleveland

From Channel 3 News:

CLEVELAND -- Citizens Leadership Academy is the first of its kind in northeast Ohio. This is an Expeditionary Learning school, which means it is hands-on and project based.

This school is part of the Breakthrough Charter Schools group, and just opened this year. It is for grades 6 to 8 and prides itself on a non-traditional format.

"We believe in getting kids away from their desks and learning outside the classroom in their community and also bringing the community to them," says Principal Shelly Saltzman.

She says this is a critical time to make sure kids succeed in school. There are about 165 Expeditionary Learning schools in the country.
